Ducks be more like geese and kick their feet out when they come into my spread. I might have to buy a new call..... Seriously though why can I get geese to finish into a spread and not ducks? Is there something different you need to do with the spread or what?

Well thats a good question I set my deeks up in kinda of a u formation and just knock the crap out of them !!!!! you have to ste a landing spot right in front of you what ever you do it should work . make sure they cant see you tomuch and call at TIPS AND TAILS ONLY you could be calling too much

Sooooo many variables to be able to give a real answer. Could be anything from decoys to overcalling. If your calling is up to par, then I'd start looking at the dekes......condition,spread layout etc.My average shot is 15-20yd. depending how far out I set my dekes.Ever see a duck with an absolute look of shock on it's face? The eyes get as big as saucers and the bottom of the bill d**n near hits the water......hilarious!!!!!

I think you might have hit it. A majority of the dekes I used this year were my buddys and they are not in real good shape. No paints chipped off but the colors are really faded. I bought my dad some ghg hot buys for xmas so we will see if that helps next year.

I think you are using the wrong call ;D ;D ;D
But seriously could have been the paint. If it makes you wonder, what do you think the ducks think?

listen to the bird's,be it duck or geese.they will tell you what they want to hear.an sometime's nothing at all. on spread's,an this depend's on your location.family group's in early season.regular season-u's or x's.late season,u's or split them into a h pattern.i personally will use alot of decoy's in the late season make the u but put a longer line on one side,an have a few out front as they give the apperence they just landed an are walking in to the spread.i don't call as much in the late season as well, basic honk's,don't over power it. duck's-i hunt alot on the river, mallard's ,black's,pintail's,canvasback's,golden eye's an a few other's.i go after woodies in the early season-basic whine wood duck call will work. mallard's the rest of the time. either be field or water. field-put decoy's out with goose decoy's. water-an to be honest i just throw them out-but leave acouple hole's for them to land into. calling just quack.no fancy hail call's.just plain lazy hen quack. once they start talking it's a different story-hit them with some drawed out feeding chatter,an some nasty growling quack's.an it will usally finish them off. see-ya steve
