Ive been looking for a new rifle for varments at long range 500 yards plus and i have narrowed it down to a Remington VLS this is built on a 700 Bdl with a 26"target barrel beaver tail stock and 9 3/4 lbs but im wondering about which cal i should go with im leaning toward 243 for the various range of bullet weights and i can pump it up to be faster than a 22-250 what do ya think ;D

The .243 is a good round. lots of options in bullets and fairly inexpensive, especially hand loads. I am just not sold on the Remington rifles though. They just dont fit me right. But to each there own I guess. But I think you have a good choice on cal. You might consider some wild cat calibers if you are hand loading. Maybe something like the newer .243 WSSM. With a factory load it is at 4060 fps and with a 250 yrd. zero it is only dropping 25.5 in. Sounds hot to me.

22-250 is a good cal....but I'd ditch Rem and look to Savage or Weatherby for more accurate guns...even Ruger

Just be careful with the weatherby. Especially in weatherby Magnum calibers. The throat of the barrel has a tendency the wear out after only about a thousand rounds.
